Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people.” Since the inception of Facebook many have touted similar sentiments in posts and info grams with variations that detract from the “tragedy” and replace it with “blame”.

I never really understood the idea that not acting made the problems our fault! When government make a law that limits freedom, what can we do? We voted for them as a majority. We can yell and stamp our feet in protest, which we do. We can set up and sign petitions. which we do, though mostly the number of signatures is so small as to be completely insignificant. Without breaking the law, what else is there? Civil disobedience is a possibility, but unlikely to have the desired effect without literally, “millions” of people working together with collective consciousness. That needs a leader, a profound leader, such was Mahatma Gandhi. Anyone out there want to volunteer? We could create a “pitchfork” army if we had the resources but to be honest, I think recruitment would be a challenge! So the idea that it’s our fault because “…good people do nothing” is really nonsense!

Money is more important than lives. Success is more important than principles. Leaders create and maintain inequality. Greed is acceptable. Wealth is power. These are the tenets by which we are ruled. Government and their corporate masters determine how we live, where we can and can’t go, what we can and can’t say, what we can and can’t do. Did we really allow this to happen? No! It was insidious, a growing clandestine corruption over the last 600 years, since the inception of the feudal system that put a stranglehold on society, and paved the way for a wealthy elite fed by the work of the common people whose land and freedom have been systematically appropriated.

I doubt even a single one of us would deny that we would accept wealth in a heartbeat. We all do a lottery to some degree or other. Who would turn their back on a six-figure sum? This is the world we live in. No longer is money merely a form of exchange, it is now a goal, a supreme desire greater than God or heaven!

Martin Luthor King Jr. also said, “Any religion that professes to be concerned about the souls of men and is not concerned about the slums that damn them, the economic conditions that strangle them and the social conditions that cripple them is a spiritually moribund religion awaiting burial.” The same poignant remark could be readily associated with today’s government and those that run it.
