Its afternoon with pavement stalls
\nThe air is rent with fruiterer’s calls,
\n“Strawberries plump at prices fair”
\n“From pocket or purse, if need be share.”<\/p>\n
Curvaceous housewives,
\nWith eyes alight
\nStop and gaze
\nAt the scarlet sight,
\nThis benevolent spouse
\nDespite the cost
\nPays up for the punnets
\nThe battle is lost!<\/p>\n
The fruits are borne away like rubies,
\nThey really are such succulent beauties.
\nProud of the bowl with sugar and cream,
\nThey look, in the home, like a snowcapped dream.<\/p>\n
An apostle spoon,
\nAnd the mount is demolished,
\nShe pouts her lips
\n‘Til the glassware is polished.<\/p>\n
Happily full….
\nShe rests – the chair sighs
\nThere’s a hint of the Lisa
\nAs she closes her eyes.<\/p>\n
The flow of the juice
\nLaps into her senses,
\nShe dreams in a world
\nWith no present tenses.<\/p>\n
Back to the past
\nWhere her men were fair,
\nBack to one,
\nFor whom she really did care?<\/p>\n
The berries and beet
\nand the creamy white
\nDrift her deeper and deeper
\ninto nostalgic “night”.<\/p>\n
Her years fall away
\nin this sensuous sleep,
\nShe slumbers in girlhood
\nfree and replete.<\/p>\n
The produce of Bacchus
\nat best, without flaw,
\nCan surely not equal
